When Elisabeth Elliot announced her retirement from the “Gateway to Joy” radio program, many wondered who, if anyone, would replace her “voice for women” on WXAN. Now that question is answered in Nancy Leigh DeMoss.
Nancy’s new daily program, “Revive Our Hearts,” has replaced “Gateway to Joy” in the 9:45 a.m. time slot on WXAN. We have already received many wonderful comments on Nancy’s teaching and are expecting many blessings in the future.
Getting to Know Nancy
A native of Philadelphia, Nancy grew up in a family that was deeply committed to Christ and to the mission of world evangelization. At an early age, she surrendered her life to Christ and to His call to serve His Kingdom. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in piano performance. After completing college, she served on the staff of a large local church in the area of children's ministries.
Since 1980 she has served as the Director of Publications and Women's Ministries and as the editor of Spirit of Revival magazine, for Life Action Ministries, a revival ministry based in Niles, Michigan.
For more than 20 years, Nancy has communicated her burden for both personal and corporate revival in conferences and retreats throughout North America and abroad.
A compelling speaker, Nancy makes Scripture come alive and urges personal obedience to its truths. She communicates a love for the Word and for the Lord Jesus that is infectious!
Nancy is the author of A Place of Quiet Rest: Finding Intimacy with God Through a Daily Devotional Life and Lies Women Believe: And the Truth that Sets Them Free! (Moody Press).
Questions for Nancy
Q. Tell us about your conversion and your call to ministry.
A. I am the first born of seven children. My parents, both of whom came to know the Lord as young adults, were faithful in leading our family in Scripture reading and prayer. My earliest memory is trusting Christ as my Savior at the age of four. By the time I was six or seven years old, I had a conscious sense that God's hand was on my life and that He had set me apart to serve Him vocationally. I could not escape His call--nor would I want to! He has been an incredible Lord and Master.
Q. What books or authors have made an impression on your life?
A. Since earliest childhood, my walk with God has been enormously impacted by biographies of missionaries and other great Christians. My heart has been deeply warmed and challenged by various authors, including classic writers and preachers such as Francois Fenelon, Thomas Brooks, and Charles Spurgeon, and a handful of contemporary authors such as John Piper and Elisabeth Elliot.
Q. What do you like to do to relax?
A. Spend time with my friends' families; read; assemble jigsaw puzzles.
Q. With your full schedule, what revitalizes your "batteries"?
A. Bible reading, prayer, setting apart the Lord's Day, corporate worship, long walks, pontoon boat rides on the river outside my home.
Q. What is your life goal?
A. At the end of my life I want to be able to say to the Lord, "I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given me to do" (John 17:4).
Q. What is your personal mission statement?
A.To love God with all my heart; To glorify Him by living an obedient, Christ-like life and by declaring His Truth to others; To serve as a "wedding coordinator" --helping the Bride (of Christ) to get ready for the Wedding!
Q. What led you to take on the responsibility of hosting "Revive Our Hearts"?
A. A growing burden as I looked into the eyes and listened to the stories of thousands of Christian women who are living defeated, barren lives and who are in perpetual bondage. An irresistible sense of the call of God to speak the Truth to women and to call them to respond in surrender, obedience, and faith.
Q. What do you hope to accomplish with "Revive Our Hearts"?
A.I am believing God for genuine revival among women. I pray that He will raise up a movement of surrendered, trusting, joyful, wise, praying, fruitful women who will reflect the beauty of His ways in their homes, churches, and communities.
Q. What do you foresee as your biggest challenges?
A. Guarding my personal walk and time alone with the Lord, in the midst of greatly increased demands on my schedule. Personal integrity--making sure that my public life and ministry are consistent with my private life and walk. Ensuring that my public ministry flows out of a fresh, passionate love relationship with the Lord Jesus.
