Son of Famous Atheist Speaks in Marble Hill, MO
by Brad Russell
On July 8th and 9th, William J. Murray, the son of Madalyn Murray O'Hair, spoke at New Salem Baptist Church, Marble Hill, MO. Mr. Murray is the chairman of the Washington DC based Religious Freedom Coalition Organization which works for Christian and social conservative principles in government-and he is the author of five Christian books; he is an evangelist, patriot, and renowned conservative orator.
Saturday, the 8th, there were 311 people to listen to Mr. Murray speak. A large percentage of those people were visitors to New Salem. That night, Mr. Murray gave his testimony. He told of how his mother tried to take him and his brother to the Communist Soviet Union. When they returned, after failing to defect, Mr. Murray needed to go to school and while enrolling they saw kids pledging allegiance to the flag, reading the Bible and praying. This infuriated Mr. Murray's mother. She told him that they needed to stop prayer and Bible reading in schools and make this country like the Soviet Union. Their case
went before the Supreme Court and the judges ruled that students didn't need to pray in school. Throughout Mr. Murray's life he fell deeply into spiritual turmoil and sin. He became successful, but the money wasn't enough, he fell into alcoholism. His mother, brother, and daughter were abducted and consequently murdered. But God delivered Mr. Murray for His use, and he accepted Christ at age 33.
Sunday night, Mr. Murray preached from Ruth 1:1-5. The message was titled "Return to Bethlehem-Judah." It challenged listeners to stop running from God and to return to the place that God wants them to be.
Both nights that Mr. Murray spoke were inspirational. He challenged everyone to start standing up for Biblical Principles, that if enough people stand up for what is right there is still hope for America and God's blessing can fall down on us.
Mr. Murray has strong desires to win lost souls to the Lord and to return this nation back to God. As an example, the Religious Freedom Coalition has begun a major campaign to assist Congressman Tom Cabourn in passing the "Presence of Life" resolution. The "Presence of Life" resolution states that since the medical definition of death is an absence of a brain wave and a heartbeat, then the definition of life should be the presence of a brain wave and a heartbeat.
