One
of the many interesting programs WXAN radio has to offer is from 6 a.m. to 8:30a.m. weekdays when Bill McCarty hosts his morning show.
His soothing chatter and interesting selection of Southern Gospel hits
can brighten even the darkest day.
Although
Bill has been working for WXAN since it began in 1982, he left twice to explore
other avenues in his life. Each
time he felt the Lord calling him back to work at the station.
“I
have seen many changes in the station since its conception,” Bill stated.
“We started broadcasting with about 50 albums and now everything is
computerized. Harold Lawder, the
owner, has made sure we have the best equipment and that it is easy to run
during a shift.”
He
attended Southeastern College in Harrisburg for two years, then went to
broadcasting school in Kansas City. After
serving four years in the Air Force, he began working for KFMP in Cape
Girardeau, MO. After leaving there
he went to KPIA in Ironton, MO, then to WHCO in Sparta, and finally landed at WXAN.
There
are two special women in his life. First
is his wife, Willene, who works at Head Start in Steeleville, the
town where they reside. The other
is his daughter, Laura Kay, who works at Ford Motor Credit in Cape Girardeau.
“I
would like to tell our listening audience and the people who support us how much
they are appreciated,” Bill continued. “We
are always open to our listeners’ spiritual needs as well as any other need
that may arise.”
