Walter Wangerin, Jr. On KMHM

Every Sunday morning at 9:05 a.m. you can tune in to KMHM 104.1 FM and hear master storyteller, Walter Wangerin, Jr. with “Lutheran Vespers.” Walter Wangerin captivates the imaginations of people of all ages through his stories, reflections, meditations and life experiences. 
Walter Wangerin shows you how God is in all things great and small and shows us how we must proclaim Christ in our lives. Since 1994, Pastor Walter Wangerin has been joining story and Gospel as the Lutheran Vespers speaker, receiving acclaim from thousands of listeners. 
We especially thank our Evangelical Lutheran Churches in America of Bollinger and Cape Girardeau Counties that sponsor this dynamic half-hour program. There are four churches in all that are involved in meeting the needs financially so that you can be blessed weekly by Lutheran Vespers.

Pastor Robert Klein, Sr., pastor of the Saint Mark Lutheran Church located at 1900 Cape LaCroix Road in Cape Girardeau, MO had spearheaded a group of pastors to jointly fund the sponsorship of Lutheran Vespers. Pastor Robert Klein, Sr. has been pastoring Saint Marks Lutheran Church for four years. Originally from Ohio, Pastor Klein came to Cape Girardeau four years ago from O’Fallon, MO where he was a Missions Developer and started a new church. Pastor Klein had also served as Chaplain to the Missouri House of Representatives in Jefferson City for over 20 years.

COGS / Children of God, a group for children grades 2 through 6
LYO / Lutheran Youth Organization, a group for confirmed through 12th grade. Women's groups include: Ruth Circle, which meets at 1 P.M. on Mondays,Mary/Martha Circle, which meets at 7:30 P.M. on Mondays and Dorcas Circle, which meets on Tuesdays at 9:30 A.M.
April 29th marked the 35th Anniversary celebration of the date of organization/charter membership and a reception followed the Worship Service.

Pastor Albert Nyland, pastor of the Sargent’s Chapel Lutheran Church and Sedgewickville Lutheran Church, both in Sedgewickville was retired from the St. Johns Lutheran Church of Pocahontas in 1994. Albert Nylan has been pastoring for 41 years and was assigned by Bishop Charles Maahs to pastor in Sedgewickville where he has been pastoring for the last four and a half years. Throughout his career, Pastor Nylan has served in three congregations in southern Illinois and one in central Indiana. He has also developed a Mission Congregation in Fern Creek Kentucky (a suburb of Louisville). While originally from Chicago, he currently resides in Jackson, Mo.

Sedgewickville Lutheran Church is located at the cross roads of K and WW in Sedgewickville.

Pastor John Kiehl, has been pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas for six and one half years. Prior to God’s calling him to pastor, John Kiehl had a farm near Marshall, MO. where he is originally from. 
ACTIVITIES AND MORE AT ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, POCAHONTAS
Luther League: A youth group which meets two times a month for study and recreation.
This summer the Luther League will be going to Denver Colorado for a Global Missions event, sponsored by the ELCA. There they will participate in music, workshops and experience cultural worship.
Hope Circle: A women’s group that meets the first Wednesday of each month for Bible Study.
Faith and Love Circle: A women’s group that meets the second Monday of each month for Bible Study.

BIO OF WALTER WANGERIN, JR.
Pastor Wangerin is the author of mor than 20 deeply spiritual and widely acclaimed books for children and adults. They include fiction, non-fiction and devotional material. He is writer-in-residence at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana, and the featured columnist in The Lutheran magazine, a monthly publication of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Many have also discovered that Pastor Wangerin's story telling gift transcends the printed page. He belongs in that tradition of oral storytellers who have captured the imaginations of people of all ages, through all the ages. His stories, reflections, meditations and life experiences find God in common things and proclaim Christ in our lives.
