"Regrets"
by WXAN & KMHM General Manager, Doug Apple
Do you have any regrets? Sometimes we can let regrets drag us down. But where is our faith in God? We quote the mantra, “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.” If that is true, there is no room for regrets.
To dwell on regrets is to wallow in manure. To put our hope in God fills us with peace and joy.
Some people look at their past mistakes, and the toll those mistakes are taking on their life today. Don't fall into that trap!
It doesn't matter how bad your mistakes were. Don't repeat them, but don't dwell on them.
Regrets strangle hope. Regrets bring darkness and confusion. Hope brings light and clarity.
But how can you have hope when you have so many regrets? How can you have hope when your mistakes have messed up your life?
You can have hope because your hope is in God! No one's hope comes from being so “wonderful” and so “in control”, because no one is so wonderful and no one has that much control.
But God is wonderful, and God is in control! One thing I glean from Colossians chapter one is that hope comes from understanding God's grace in all its truth.
Did you get that? “Understanding God's grace…” What is grace? “Unmerited favor.” We don't deserve it. By ourselves, we live lives of regret. But even though we are undeserving, God grants us His favor! He loves us! In fact, He lavishes His love on us! We are His darling children!
When we fully understand the truth of
God's grace, we can live lives full of hope; hope that our future has a positive
outlook. So forget about regrets. Focus on God. I close with these powerful old
song lyrics. Sing them with me!
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of
Earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace!”
